As we cycle through the vineyards, we will stop at some of the best wineries in the region, where you will get a chance to taste some of the finest wines from Penedes. Knowledgeable guides will give you an insight into the history and production of each wine, allowing you to appreciate the flavours and aromas of each wine even more.

ITINERARY.

You will be collected from Vilafranca del Penedés train station if arriving from Barcelona. A private transfer can be arranged from Barcelona airport at a small supplement. Welcome meeting, a tour briefing and bike fitting over a glass of Cava.

Your accommodation for the next two tonights is Cava & Hotel Mastinell.

This hotel is an unprecedented architectural masterpiece, a five-star boutique hotel whose rippled roof mirrors the curves of resting cava bottles. The hotel is a tribute to Antonio Gaudí’s trencadís abstract mosaics technique and was awarded the gold medal at the International Interior Design Exhibition I Shanghai. 

Tonight, the dinner will be served at the hotel’s En Rima restaurant, where the cuisine is created using fresh, organic, and healthy ingredients sourced from their gardens and local markets. The chefs at En Rima respect the Catalan and Mediterranean gastronomic traditions in their cooking process, resulting in exquisite dishes that reflect the nearby sea and mountains.

The circular route today takes you through a variety of terrain, from flat, easy stretches to more challenging hills, making it suitable for cyclists of all levels. Along the way, riders will pass through charming villages, rolling vineyards, and lush countryside, providing plenty of opportunities to stop and take in the scenery.

As you embark on your ride through the picturesque landscape of Penedés, there are plenty of places you’ll encounter that are worth exploring. One of the highlights of your trip will undoubtedly be the wineries that dot the countryside. We’ll suggest some of the best places to sample the region’s renowned wines and even give you insider tips on which vineyards offer the most impressive views and experiences.

Explore the rich wine history!

On your way back to the hotel, we highly recommend stopping by Torres Winery, which has been producing wine for an impressive five generations. You’ll get a glimpse into the rich history and culture of wine-making in the region as you tour the facilities and sample their delicious wines. Your hotel is just 5 minutes away.

Be sure to make time for a visit to the Wine Museum. Here, you’ll learn about the rich history of winemaking in the region and discover the fascinating cultural significance of this amazing land. With interactive exhibits and informative displays, it’s a must-see for anyone interested in wine and its history.

As the sun begins to set and your stomach starts to rumble, we’ll point you in the direction of some of the best restaurants in Vilafranca del Penedés. Whether you’re looking for traditional Catalan fare or modern cuisine, we have plenty of options to suit your tastes.

After enjoying a satisfying breakfast, you embark on an exciting journey to your accommodation for the next two days, BnB Wine & Cooking. As you hit the road, you are greeted by the picturesque scenery of the countryside, with sprawling vineyards, flourishing olive trees, and luscious almond trees lining your path. The natural beauty of the surroundings is simply awe-inspiring, with every twist and turn in the road offering a new and stunning view.

There are so many exciting options to explore along the way, including a couple of charming old wineries and an olive oil farm. Each stop promises to be a unique and unforgettable experience, filled with rich history, fascinating stories, and of course, delicious wine and food.

You will learn about the traditional winemaking process, from grape to bottle, and even taste some of the finest wines that the region has to offer. You might be lucky enough to meet the passionate winemakers and hear about their family history and the stories behind their craft.

You can witness the ancient art of olive oil production, from harvesting to pressing, and taste some of the most exquisite oils that you will ever come across. The farm owners will share their knowledge and expertise with you, and you’ll discover the unique characteristics and flavours of different varieties of olive oil.

Dinner lesson with Marta!

Dinner tonight will be at your accommodation. Marta, the owner, will teach you how to cook a 3-course meal, Catalan all the way. The wine and cooking class includes:

  • Walk through their vineyard while you learn how wine is produced
  • Wine tasting while we cook with wines and Cavas from Penedès
  • Cooking Class preparing a menu with 3 dishes
  • Outdoor lunch or dinner with the food that you have cooked

Today the circular route will take to Sant Sadurni D’anoia, The Capital of Cava. This route is perfect for all levels of cyclists, offering breathtaking views of the vineyards, hills, and quaint villages that make this area so special.

As you cycle along this circular route, you’ll have the chance to visit some of the most renowned wineries in the Penedes wine region. Among them, we recommend stopping by:

  1. Freixenet: One of the largest and most famous cava producers in the world, Freixenet offers guided tours of its winery and a chance to learn about the history of cava production. Don’t miss their impressive wine cellars!
  2. Codorniu: Another iconic cava producer, Codorniu has been in operation since the 16th century. Take a guided tour of the winery and its Modernist architecture, designed by famed Catalan architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch.
  3. Juvé y Camps: A family-owned winery with a history dating back to 1796, Juvé y Camps is known for its high-quality cava and stunning estate. Take a tour of their vineyards and cellars, followed by a tasting of their wines.

We will suggest a few places for you to have lunch, Catalonia is a food lover’s paradise, with a wide variety of delicious and unique dishes to try. You can’t miss: Pa amb tomàquet, Butifarra (Traditional Catalan sausage), Crema Catalana, Escudella etc…

Today your destination is Barraca Entre Vinyes, an amazing new concept of accommodation. This pioneering initiative in the sector vindicates the constructions that have been used by the farmers of the Penedès since the 18th century, adapted to the present, with a 100% sustainable philosophy, responsible for the environment and personalized attention. 

During the way, we have reserved the most amazing experience for those who are seeking adventure and breathtaking views. You’ll have the opportunity to fly over the stunning Penedes wine region on an ultra-light aircraft. Imagine soaring through the skies, feeling the wind in your hair and the sun on your face, all while taking in the stunning views of rolling hills and vineyards below. It’s an experience that you’ll never forget and is sure to be a highlight of your trip to Catalonia.

As you fly over the Penedes, you’ll be able to see the vineyards up close and get a sense of the scale of the wineries that produce some of the world’s best wines. You’ll also have the opportunity to spot landmarks such as the Montserrat mountain range and the stunning Mediterranean coastline.

Please note: Barraca Entre Vinyes closes during the summer months, and the heat makes it very difficult to enjoy this experience. We have Hotel Font de la Canya as an alternative.

Time to say goodbye to this beautiful region, as today we will be transferring you back to the airport/train station for your journey home.

We will transfer you to Barcelona where you will be staying at Hotel Market.

OPTION TWO – SITGES €310 per person

Sitges is a lovely coastal town only 30 minutes away from Vilafranca del Penedés. You will be staying for the next two nights at Hotel Kalma, on the beachfront.

Known for its beautiful beaches, vibrant nightlife, and historic architecture, Sitges is a popular destination for tourists from all over the world.

One of the most notable things about Sitges is its stunning coastline, with several beautiful beaches that are perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and water sports.

In addition to its natural beauty, Sitges also has a rich cultural heritage. The town is home to several historic landmarks, including the 17th-century Church of Sant Bartomeu and Santa Tecla and the beautiful Palau Maricel, which houses an impressive collection of art and artefacts.

Sitges is also known for its lively nightlife, with a variety of bars, clubs, and restaurants that cater to all tastes and preferences. Whether you’re looking for a quiet night out or a wild party, you’re sure to find something to suit your style in Sitges.

Today you are booked on a 2-hour sailing experience.

With the help of an experienced skipper, you’ll set sail from the harbour and enjoy a leisurely cruise along the coast.

As you sail, you’ll be able to take in the stunning views of the town’s picturesque beaches, historic landmarks, and charming seafront promenade. You may even spot some local marine wildlife, such as dolphins or sea turtles.

The sailing experience also offers the chance to relax and soak up the Mediterranean sunshine while enjoying the gentle breeze and the sound of the waves. You can sit back and enjoy the scenery or take a turn at the helm and feel the thrill of sailing a yacht yourself.

Travel Options.

The Penedes, wine and food cycling holiday starts and finishes in Vilafranca. Airport transfers are included in the cost of your holiday. If you choose to add on two more days in Barcelona or Sitges, the transfer is also included.

Accommodation.

Bikes.

Bikes are typically Conor hybrids (or equivalent) with semi-slick tyres. We also have electric bikes available to hire at a €210. Child bikes, tag-a-longs, trailers, and child seats are available for rental.
